The southeastern United States is home to an extraordinary diversity of native grasslands—from prairies and savannas to glades, barrens, balds, meadows, and open woodlands. These ecosystems support remarkable concentrations of plants and wildlife, tell stories stretching back thousands of years, and form an irreplaceable part of the South's natural heritage.
Yet many of these landscapes have disappeared, and others remain vulnerable to development, conversion, fragmentation, and ecological degradation.
The Southeastern Grasslands Conservancy was created to change that. We work to permanently protect exceptional grassland landscapes and ensure that they are restored, stewarded, and conserved for generations to come.
